Poorly calculated irrigation does not just waste water, it damages the crop

When irrigation comes up, the conversation usually centres on saving water. But there is a more serious problem that is hardly ever mentioned: irrigating badly, whether too much or too little, damages the plant directly, and in some cases that damage cannot be recovered.
Two ways to harm the crop
Every soil has a moisture range in which the plant can do well: not so wet that it drowns, not so dry that it suffers. Going outside that range on either side has real consequences.
Over-irrigating saturates the soil beyond what the roots can use. Excess water pushes oxygen out of the soil pores, suffocates the roots and creates the ideal environment for fungi and root diseases. A root damaged by too much water is never quite the same again that season.
Under-irrigating is just as serious, but quieter. When the soil dries below a certain point, the roots lose the strength to draw out the water that is left. If that point is crossed, the plant wilts permanently: it does not recover even if it is irrigated afterwards. The whole season’s yield is compromised at that moment, even if the effects only show weeks later, at harvest.

The problem is that the limit is invisible
Without sensors, there is no way of knowing exactly where in that range the soil is. Irrigation is done by habit or by calendar, trusting that “more or less” is fine. The problem is that “more or less” gives no warning when the limit is crossed: by the time it shows in the plant, the damage is done.
Seeing the limit before crossing it
Sanzar360 measures soil moisture in real time with TEROS-10 sensors and, through the UC501 controller, keeps irrigation within the safe range of each plot, calculated according to its specific texture. The system does not only save water: it stops the crop from reaching the extremes that damage it irreversibly.
The difference does not show on the water bill. It shows in a harvest that did not lose yield because of irrigation that went too far, in either direction.
