Downstream
Sanzar Group at the Food Design Festival

On Friday 15 September 2023 we spent the day surrounded by innovation and creativity in the heart of Madrid. The event took place at La Nave, the City of Madrid’s innovation centre, which brings together curious minds, entrepreneurs and people with ideas, all with the same aim: to tackle the city’s challenges with foresight.
In this setting we presented our project, which focuses on optimising fertiliser use to reduce costs and limit environmental impact. Using new technologies and strategies, we help farmers and agricultural businesses use fertilisers as efficiently and sustainably as possible. Our aim is to combine sustainability with innovation, and the event was a good place to show that work.
The fifth Food Design Festival, organised by Singular Foods, the Design Institute of Spain, Revista Alimentaria and Koelnmesse España, explored where design and food meet and how our relationship with food could improve. Our work is not limited to agriculture: we also offer customised solutions for our clients, from IoT (Internet of Things) systems for agriculture to apps designed around each client’s needs.
Over the three days there was a varied programme of talks, round tables, masterclasses and workshops, along with plenty of networking with Spanish and international designers and professionals from across the food value chain.
The Food Design Festival reminded us that food is much more than nutrition: it is also art, culture and a tool for innovation. We came away motivated by the participants’ passion and dedication, and keen to apply what we learnt to our own project.
